Isabella Ivy Tourist Club (Grand Junction, Colorado)
According to Lucy (Ferril) Ela, the club was founded around 1900 by a Mrs. Oglesvie, a “thinker and doer” who had just moved to town. Six of the members educated themselves about the countries of the world and then attended the World’s Fair [in 1904]. The club eventually disbanded.
Italian Building and Loan Association (Grand Junction, Colorado)
An organization that assisted people in finding jobs in the early Twentieth century. They also provided banking services for workers that might be denied such services elsewhere.
Izaak Walton League (Mesa County, Colorado)
The Izaak Walton League in Mesa County, part of a broader national organization, advocated for several ecological and environmental changes, including: the establishment of grasses for sheep and cattle grazing, the prevention of sewage runoff in the Colorado and Gunnison Rivers, the abatement of smog in the Grand Valley, and erosion and flood control. School superintendent and local leader Lucille (Hunter) Mahannah worked as a member of the Ladies branch of the organization to initiate the local Johnny Grass Seed Movement in 1951.
