Artist in Residence: Rachel Campbell-Osborne
Rachel Campbell-Osborne served as the fifteenth Mesa County Libraries Artist in Residence at 970West Studio. The dates of her residency were May 24 - August 30, 2021. During the residency, she kept open studio hours at 970West on Thursdays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, allowing her to showcase her art and creative process for Mesa County residents. She also gave seven public, educational programs: En Plein Air Watercolor Painting (Adult workshop): June 8, 10:00-11:30 am, Chinle Cactus Garden (CSU Extension office at the Mesa County Fairgrounds in Orchard Mesa) Saturday, June 26,10:00-11:30 am, Palisade Library Courtyard Thursday, July 8, Central Library Discovery Garden Kids Club Outdoor Watercolors: Artist in Residence Rachel Campbell-Osborne will teach us about easy En Plein Air Watercolor Painting! Artist in Residence: Rebecca Woods
Rebecca Woods served as the fourteenth Mesa County Libraries Artist in Residence at the 970West Studio. The dates of her residency were February 1 - May 3, 2021. During the residency, she kept virtual open studio hours via Zoom on Wednesdays from 3-5 pm, allowing her to showcase her art and creative process for Mesa County residents (all studio hours and programs were virtual due to the covid-19 pandemic). She also gave three public, online educational programs: Papercraft Figures (February 24 at 6 pm (recorded)) Description: “Paper dolls” may bring to mind images of punch-out cards with a variety of clothes, but that isn’t the only type of figure you can make with paper and your imagination. Make papercraft figures that you can dress, decorate, or even use as puppets in your own puppet show. Pick up a kit ahead of time to follow along then, join Rebecca via Zoom after the video premiere. Take & Makes available starting 9 a.m Feb. 24 Shadow Boxes and Tunnel Books (March 24 at 6 pm (recorded)) Description: Transform plain paper into beautiful three-dimensional scenery that effortlessly explodes with life with the simple addition of light. Pick up a kit ahead of time to follow along then, join Rebecca via Zoom after the video premiere. Gel Print an Art Doll (April 21 at 6 pm (recorded)) (40 kits in all) Description: Create and print your own characters and designs straight onto fabric that can be sewn together to create an art doll of your own creation. Artist in Residence: Savannah Ashmore
Savannah Ashmore served as the sixteenth Mesa County Libraries Artist in Residence at 970West Studio. The dates of her residency were from September 13-December 20, 2021. During the residency, she kept open studio hours at 970West once a week, allowing her to showcase her art and creative process for Mesa County residents. She also gave four public, educational programs: Nature Journaling in the Discovery Garden (September 17) Mixed Media Art Journaling (October 6) All Ages Open Art Studio (November 13) Create Your Own Handcrafted Stationery (December 9)
Artist in Residence: TJ Smith
TJ Smith served as the twelfth Mesa County Libraries Artist in Residence at the 970West Studio. The dates of his residency were January 13 - April 20, 2020. During the residency, he kept open studio hours on Thursdays from 2-4:00 pm and Tuesday from 5-7:00 pm, allowing him to showcase his art and creative process for Mesa County residents. He also gave four public, educational programs (another program was canceled due to the covid-19 pandemic): RECORDING MEMORIES ON PAPER (Thursday, February 6, 2020, 6-7:30 pm) (Monument Room) This program was also held at the Palisade Branch (Saturday, February 22, 2022, 2 pm) and the Fruita Branch (Tuesday, February 25, 2020, 2 pm) Event description: Learn the basics of layout and composition, as well as collage and printmaking techniques to create a handheld memory booklet. Participants are encouraged to bring in photos, ephemera, and/or found objects from a particular event or moment in time to use in creating that personal booklet of remembrance. MAKE A BOOKLET (Neighbors Read program) (February 20, 2020, 6:30 pm) (Central Children’s Center) Event description: Kids and families learn the basics of collage and printmaking to create a one-of-a-kind booklet.
