This horseshoeing business had the financial backing to locate in a brick building – much preferred after the 1888 fire – which is said to have been located between First and Second streets on G Street (at the corner of the alley). Netting was draped over the body of a horse to ward off flies and mosquitoes, terrible pests for both horses and people in the days before sanitation and mosquito-control districts. Used buggies were in the lot beside the shop.
