Remembering Salida
The Salida Oral History Project preserved the history and heritage of Salida through interviews of long-time residents and other knowledgeable people who lived and worked in the area. These are shared stories of their childhood, schooling, family, church, outings, celebrations, friends, hobbies, and events that still live in their memories. The interviews will be kept forever so that others can learn from these true historians’ words.

- Interview with Wilmoth Everett, b. Oct. 30, 1913 and died Oct. 19, 2007. Wilmoth discusses ranching in Salida and the surrounding areas with her husband George E. Everett, the local rodeos they used to attend, and the plane crash that killed her husband and two Chaffee County Commissioners., Wilmoth Lynne Everett, 93 of Salida, died Oct. 19, 2007, at Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center. She was born Oct. 30, 1913, in La Junta to Martin and Addie (Kirschner). Mrs. Everett and her parents moved several times during her childhood before settling in Salida in 1930. She attended Salida High School through 11th grade. She met the love of her life, George E. Everett, in 1932 at the Fourth of July Rodeo in Nesterville, where George won the bronc riding. They married Dec. 4, 1932, and made their home on the Everett Ranch in Sand Park where George worked with his father. Mr. and Mrs. Everett bought an Adobe Park ranch in 1945, where she lived until her death. She and George and their three sons formed Everett Land and Cattle in 1958 and bought his father's ranch. Although Mr. Everett was killed in a plane crash in 1977, Wilmoth continued as secretary for Everett Land and Cattle until 2005. Mrs. Everett was a lifetime member of the Methodist Church in Salida and charter member of the Chaffee County Cowbelles. She also belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, Honored Ladies of the Shrine, Columbine Club, Chaffee County Farm Bureau, Salida Hospital Auxiliary and Red Hat Society.
