Christopher Columbus Bower
-
He was the mayor and possibly marshal of Palisade, Colorado in the early 1900’s. US Census records that he was born in Kentucky, lived in Kansas and was living in Palisade by at least 1900. He apparently handled some disciplinary matters for the townsfolk and organized bonds when road building projects and the like came up. US Census records also indicate that he worked as a blacksmith. He owned a livery stable also known as Bower’s Hall (possibly also known as Bower's Garage at 208 E 3rd Street). Dances were held there.
He was married to Eliza Bower. His son was Fred Bauer. He was known as Colonel Bower, which suggests, given his birth date, that he may have fought in the Civil War. He died in Los Angeles and is buried in Orchard Mesa Cemetery.
