David W. Aupperle

Because of his tuberculosis, he moved from Iowa to the drier climate of Grand Junction with his wife and family in 1904. He became a large landholder, and leased his lands to others who farmed them. According to Levi P. Morse, he was known as “the father of the Highline Canal” due to how much time he spent in Washington D.C. promoting the project.

Davine Pera
-
A lifetime resident of Colorado's Western Slope, Davine Pera has been a resident of the Telluride vicinity since 1953. Her love for the history of the area was stimulated by the pioneering roots of both her paternal and maternal grandparents in the Telluride region. Davine's great-grandfather raised vegetables in Ilium Valley which he hauled over Ophir Pass in a wagon for sale in Silverton. Other turn-of-the-century relatives ranches on Wilson Mesa; one being the 800 acre Schmid ranch which was recently preserved from development through a conservation easement. Davine was the coordinator for the oral history program at the Wilkinson Public Library in Telluride for many years, recording and cataloging the valuable experiences of those who created Telluride, Colorado's colorful history.
Davine married Jack Pera in 1956. They were high school sweethearts. They ran the Timberline Hardware store, in Telluride, from 1969 to 1981.
