Doug Connaroe was born on May 20th, 1959 in Colorado Springs. He received a Bachelor of Journalism in 1983 and an MBA, both from the University of Colorado Boulder.

He was born to Warren and Louise Ruth (Percell) Westcott in Mojave, California. His father was a prison road camp warden and his mother was a homemaker. He had two brothers and two sisters. When the family’s home burned down, they moved to Hollywood. They subsequently moved to Los Angeles and then to Lakewood. He attended Stephen Foster Elementary School and Roosevelt Junior High School in Lakewood. His high school years, 1956-1960, were split between Bellflower High School and Garden Grove High School.
When Doug was a teenager, his father died from cancer, and it was up to him and his brother to support the family. He sang at the opening ceremonies for the 1960 Winter Olympics. He was in a band called “The Esquires” that made money by touring the area.
He enlisted in the Marines on June 1, 1960 in Los Angeles, California. He eventually attained the rank of sergeant. He was stationed at San Diego, Fort Pendleton, the Philippines, Okinawa, Sasebo, Yuma, Sand Point Naval Air Station, and Chicago. He served in Vietnam from 1964-1965. He taught military classes to reservists and other soldiers. He took part in the Operation Starlight invasion in 1965. He studied several fields with the military relating to radios and electronics. He also extensively studied jungle survival. He earned Distinguished Rifleman and Expert Pistol honors.
He married Alice White in June of 1963. They had a son, Douglas, and a daughter, Wendy. In 1966 or ‘67, he suffered a spinal fracture in an accident while training reservists in Chicago. He became temporarily paralyzed and spent a long time pursuing treatment. He lost his first wife, Alice, to a heart attack on February 16, 1971. Still suffering from partial paralysis, he took his children to his in-laws so that they could be properly cared for. His in-laws subsequently moved after gaining custody of the children, and as of 1983, he had been unable to track them down.
He received a medical discharge from the Marines in February of 1972. He was rated at 30% disability. He married and then divorced Harriett Hart. He married and then divorced Dianna Guire (1976-1977). He moved to Uravan, Naturita, and Vancorum, Colorado for a job in 1978. He spent time as a Boy Scout master in Naturita, Colorado. He attended Mesa College from 1977-1979. He studied Power Ready Electrical & Electronic Tune-Up Tech in Nucla in 1978. He moved to Grand Junction, Colorado in 1979. He married Joyce Horne in June of 1979. They divorced in 1983. He attended the Seible School of Drafting from 1980-1981.
He became a member of a group called SPEBSQSA in 1981 and was still serving in 1983. He had four children. He served as an elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He suffered memory issues related to his time in Vietnam. He held a wide variety of jobs including: Shipwright, mechanic, gas station attendant, dishwasher, draftsman, security guard, and electronics tech. He died in Long Beach, California at the age of 77 and is buried in Mojave, California in the Eagle Point National Cemetery.
