Ebenezer Thomas Massey
Cattle rancher killed by William Lefare on the Uncompahgre in 1903. Settler of the Gateway area in the Early 1900’s. He was born in Maryland to Robert Massey and Virmadela (Spry) Massey. His father was a farmer and his mother was a homemaker. US Census records show that he lived in Maryland at least until 1880, when he was nineteen years old and working on a farm. Records show that he attended Union College in New York in 1895 in order to become a clergyman. He married Mary E. Bryan in Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1896. There, they owned a large dairy farm. They came to the Western Slope shortly after, where he and his wife ran a ranching operation. He died in 1903 and she took over the ranch. Great-grandfather of Eben “Dean” Massey.
