Edward L. "Eddie" Clements Jr.
A balloon pilot who began flying balloons in Grand Junction, Colorado around 1976, when he was about 26 years old. According to oral history interviewee Walter Dalby, the balloon he flew was a Piccard 1973 model, which held two or three passengers. His first flight in Grand Junction took off from 27 1/2 Road and F Road on Mantey Heights, and landed near 30 Road and the river. He later staged balloon rallys from both Grand Junction High School and Sherwood Park. Clements worked as a repairman for Wegner Aircraft, and then became the parts manager for Monarch Aviation. He and his wife, Shirley, were listed as owning a ballooning company in the 1988 US City Directory. According to Dalby, Clements was "an unusual man, educated and even took two years of law. He flies his own plane." Clements and his wife also built their own solar home.
