Ernest Edgar Hicks
He was born in Tennessee. US Census records show him living in Fruita, Colorado with his parents by the time he was 18. He married Maude Hicks in 1920. He was a coal miner and barber. He had a barber shop in Delta and one in Palisade in the 1930’s.
Ernest Glen "Ernie" Maurer
He was born in What Cheer, Iowa to William Casper Maurer and Anna (Kavanaugh) Maurer. His mother died when he was five years old. The 1910 US Census shows the remaining family living on a farm near the town of Prairie, Iowa when Ernie was nine years old, with two older brothers and one older sister. He attended high school in Burlington, Iowa and then went to Barnes Business College in Denver, Colorado in 1924. He married Leone Dodson in Denver on May 27, 1926. He first came to Mesa County, Colorado in 1923 to visit his brother and sister. He went to work as a shipping clerk, getting orders to market for the United Fruit Growers Association, a newly formed cooperative. He also worked on the Orchard Mesa Canal. He bought an orchard in the Vineland area of Palisade in 1927 and then expanded his land holdings. The 1930 and 1940 US Censuses shows Ernest and Leone living with their son in east Palisade. He was a board member of the Mesa County Peach Administrative Committee when it was organized in 1939. He died at the age of eighty-two.
Ernest L. Brownson
Ernest was the oldest son of William W. and Henrietta (Harrigan) Brownson. He was born on 28 Dec 1889 in Salida, Colorado and died April 1962 in Clearwater, Florida.
