Francis (Sprague) Wright
-
The 1930 US Census record indicates that she was born in Colorado, as were her parents. She was likely born to William and Grace Sprague in Teller County. The 1910 US Census shows her living with her parents there at the age of one. William worked as a teamster and Grace was a homemaker. William's line of work took the family around the West. The family lived in Silver Bow, Montana in 1920, and the census for that year shows that Francis had a little brother named William Jr.
The family moved to Grand Junction, Colorado sometime between 1920 and 1924. Francis graduated from Grand Junction High School in 1926, where she was involved in the Latin Club. She also attended the Hoel Ross Business College for part of her high school education. Although she did not live in Grand Junction for long, she is mentioned by several interviewees in the Mesa County Oral History Project.
Colorado marriage records show that she married George Hildebrandt, of New Jersey, in Montrose, Colorado On October 17, 1927. The 1930 US Census shows them living in Union City, New Jersey with George's brother and mother. There, George worked as a chauffer and did other odd jobs, while Francis apparently did not work. The couple soon divorced.
Francis married Edgar Glen Wright in Denver on July 3, 1936. The 1940 Census shows the them living with Francis's mother, Grace, at 2802 Clayton Street, with Edgar working as a mechanic and the owner of a garage, and Francis as a homemaker. By 1950, when Francis was 40, the two had two sons, Robert and James. They lived in Lakewood.
