"May 28, 1912 -- Oct. 30, 2002
MONTROSE -- Grace L. Brewer, age 90, of Montrose, died Wednesday morning, Oct. 30, 2002, at the Montrose Memorial Hospital in Montrose.
Grace Louise Richards was born on May 28, 1912, in Old Ophir, Colo., the daughter of Samuel C. Richards and Mary Jane (Penuluna) Richards. She spent her childhood in Old Ophir where she attended school. At an early age, she moved to Ophir Loop to help her sister, Edith Waterman, in their store/post office, and to care for her two boys.
Grace married Bill Warner in Telluride on June 23, 1935. They had one son, Francis. Bill passed away as a result of having been gassed in France during World War I. After his death Grace worked at the American Legion Hospital.
On Dec. 18, 1941, Grace married Harold Brewer in Telluride. Francis was 3 years old and was Harold's pride and joy from that day on.
Grace worked for the Rose Food Mart until April of 1957, when she and Harold purchased the store, where they worked until they retired and sold the store to Dave and Lael Fruen in September of 1975. Harold preceded Grace in death on March 15, 2001.
She joined Crescent Rebekah Lodge No. 39 in 1932 and is now a member of Montrose Rebekah Lodge and is also a member of the Montrose Christian Church.
Grace loved doing needlework and gave most of it to relatives and friends. She will be forever remembered as a loving wife, a caring mother, and a very special friend to all who knew her.
Survivors include three grandchildren: Stanley, Glenda, and Howard; two stepgrandchildren: Ray Moureaux and Vonda Moureaux; four great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Jean Richards, of Montrose; Arlene Brewer, of Clarinda, Iowa; Laura Richards, of Denver; two brothers-in-law: Clell Brewer, of Jacksonville, Ill.; Eugene Christensen, of Harlan, Iowa; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Grace was preceded in death by her parents; both of her husbands: Bill Warner and Harold Brewer; five brothers: Willie, John, Sammy, Tommy and Jimmy Richards; three sisters: Edith Molander, Jane Virden, Elizabeth McKissen; and her beloved son, Francis Howard Warner."
