Hume, H.F.
Photographer located in Colorado in the early 1920s.
Hunley "H.S." Day
An early nose and throat surgeon of Mesa County, Colorado, who was very good with children. He was born in Tennessee to John Day, a farmer, and Sina Day, a house keeper. US Census records show him working as a laborer in 1880, at the age of 15, and then living in Illinois where his occupation was listed as physician by 1900. The 1900 US Census also shows him married to Edna F. Day. He was living with Edna in Grand Junction, Colorado and practicing medicine there by 1910. He once treated an abnormally bad fluctuation of blood-pressure (caused by a heart-condition) by cutting the veins in both of the patient’s arms and, after allowing the pressure to subside, sealing up the incisions. He once broke his arm and purchased an expensive one-armed rifle for the following hunting season. After a disappointment when the gun jammed the first time he attempted to fire it (while pointing it at a 6-point buck nearby), he swore off hunting and gave the rifle to a local cowboy. He was a member of the Mesa County Medical Society.
