: J. Ford White; Born August 9, 1895, in Greenleaf, Kansas. Mr. White was educated in the Greenleaf public schools graduating from the Greenleaf High School. On May 2, 1918, he and Helen Morrish of Oberlin, Kansas, were married culminating an acquaintance which started when White ran a bank at Herndon, Kansas, during a vacation period and at this time met Miss Morrish who taught kindergarten in Herndon. Mr. White began his career with the First National Bank in Salida in 1929 starting out as assistant cashier under Alymer Reeves. When Reeves resigned, Mr. White became cashier and subsequently was named executive vice president, serving in this position for 15 years prior to his retirement, October 1, 1961. Before coming to Salida, he was affiliated with banks in Dolores, Colorado, Telluride, Colorado, and a bank in Republic, Kansas. When he first came to Salida, the First National Bank was quartered in the building now occupied by Harold Koster on F Street in downtown Salida. In 1933, the First National Bank took over the Commercial Bank of Salida and in 1934 moved across the street to its present location. He served in World War I, and was a member of the Vestry of Ascension Church for many years. He was also a member of Salida Lodge 57, AF & AM, past president of the Salida Rotary Club, and for many years served as Chaffee County Chairman of the U.S. Savings Bond Sales. from the Mountain Mail, May 10, 1965.

: J. G. Mills; A county commissioner in Grand County, Colorado in the 1880’s. He was involved in a long-running feud with fellow commissioner E.P. Weber. Mills had been voted to represent Grand County in the 1882 Republican State Convention, but Weber went as a contesting delegate, and was able to take Mills’ seat from him. They died in a shootout in Grand Lake.
