John Dakin
John Dakin was born 4 October 1953 in Grand Junction, Colorado to Thomas A. and Joann Alexander Dakin. Dakin spent his youth in Grand Junction and Denver, Colorado. He graduated from Mullen High School in Denver in 1971. Dakin earned two degrees from the University of Colorado in Boulder: B.A. in History with a Russian History specialty and B.S. in Journalism. In 1986, Dakin relocated to Vail. incomparable is one way to describe Dakin’s far-reaching career in sporting event organization and media operations. His credentials include: Information Director for Colorado Ski team during eight consecutive national championships between 1981 and 1986, Chief of Press for all three Vail/Beaver Creek FIS Alpine World Ski Championships held in 1989, 1999 and 2015, Chief of Press for World Mountain Bike Championships in Vail and Beaver Creek during 1994 and 2001, Alpine Venue Press Chief for 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Alpine Mixed Zone Coordinator for 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and Course Coordinator for Mountain Bike competition during 1996 Olympic Summer Games in Atlanta. In the field of broadcast journalism, Dakin is known for his rich baritone voice and as a legendary ski race historian. In addition to being Vice President of Communications for the Colorado Ski and Snowsports Museum and its Hall of Fame, John Dakin also served as Vice President of Communications for Vail Valley Foundation between 1987 and 2015. In 2022, Dakin was named to the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame as a Sport Builder.
