In 1891, he scouted Clifton, Colorado as possible farm land along with Ezra Jaynes. He was a farmer and early pioneer of Clifton Colorado, moving there with his wife and children in 1896. Hey may have settled in the area of what became 32 Road and D 1/2 Road, land later owned by his son, Gerald Gimple.

Early Grand Junction, Colorado resident. He later moved to Clifton, where he operated a peach orchard. He worked for the newly created Grand Valley Drainage District in Mesa County beginning in 1925. Father of James Groves, a Colorado Supreme Court Justice.

John Worth Kern (December 20, 1849 – August 17, 1917) was a Democratic United States Senator from Indiana. While the title was not official, he is considered to be the first Senate majority leader (and in turn, the first Senate Democratic Leader), while serving concurrently as chairman of the Senate Democratic Caucus.
