Jonathan Josef Staufer was born 26 October 1968 in Denver, Colorado to Josef and Anne Staufer. After graduating from Vail Mountain School, Staufer attended Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont. In 1991, he matriculated with a B.A. in Literature. Like his father and uncle, Vail founding fathers Josef and Hermann Staufer, Jonathon embraces fine cooking and hospitality as a way of life.
Landscape stewardship is also an important value for the Staufer family. Also not unlike his father, Jonathon Staufer is an environmental advocate. Staufer is currently a contributing writer for the Millenium Alliance for Humanity and the Biosphere (MAHB), a Stanford University based initiative dedicated to “bringing the best science to civil society.” He is also a member of the Colorado Wildlife Federation.
Jonathon Staufer is the owner of Grappa Fine Wines & Spirits located on East Meadow Drive in Vail. In 2002, he co-founded the Vail Farmers Market and Art Show alongside Rick Scalpello. Staufer and his wife, Wendi, as well as daughter, Frejya, are active patrons of Vail Public Library, as well as enthusiastic supporters of Friends of the Vail Public Library.
