Kenneth Lee Motz
He was born to Sara Acquila (Ulmer) Motz and Harold Ionah Motz Sr. in Mesa County, Colorado. Kenneth’s grandfather had come from Iowa to Palisade in 1904. The family farmed fruit and lived on Orchard Mesa. Harold Motz Sr. was a founding member of the Mesa County Peach Administrative Board, a board governing agricultural practices in the county. Kenneth had two brothers. He attended the Pear Park School from 1928 to 1936. He went to Grand Junction High School from 1936 to 1940, where he was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), Glee Club, the National Honor Society, and the International Relations Club. He was the Home Room Council president and the FFA state president. He attended Mesa College from 1940 to 1942, where he was a member of the National Honor Fraternity. He attended the University of Denver in 1942-43 and in 1946-47. He served in the US Marine Corps Reserve from 1942 to 1966. He saw active duty from 1942 to 1946, during and just after World War II . He was again on active duty from 1951 to 1952, during the Korean War. He attained the rank of Major. In his residential life, he was a business administrator. He married Margaret Florence Mitchell of Denver on October 9, 1948. They had two children. The 1950 US Census shows them living in Denver at 1555 Sherman, with Kenneth working as an office administrator for a farm organization, and Margaret as a secretary for a fire insurance company. He died at the age of seventy-seven and is buried in Denver’s Ft. Logan National Cemetery. *Photograph from the 1940 Grand Junction High School yearbook
