Mabelle (Gardener) Clymer
She was born in Kansas and was an early Twentieth century resident of Palisade and Clifton, Colorado. She married Fred Clymer in 1915, the owner and operator of Indian School Dairy. Together with Fred, she operated Clymer's Rose Glen Dairy on Orchard Mesa. Their dairy was one of the earliest (if not the earliest) adopters of pasteurization in Mesa County. On the occasion of her wedding, she and her husband were shivareed in Clifton (tin cans attached to their horse and buggy were involved).
Mabyl Laverne (Righdenour) Chapman
She was born in Fonda, Iowa to Saul Daniel Righdenour and Ida Righdenour. Her father was a grain dealer and railroad worker. Her mother was a homemaker. The family moved to Green River, Utah and later to Fruita, Colorado. The 1910 US Census shows Mabyl living with her parents in Green River at the age of fifteen. She was educated at the Gunnison Normal School (Colorado Western University), where she majored in the Kindergarten and Primary grades. The 1920 US census shows her living in Fruita with her parents at the age of 25, with her occupation listed as teacher. She married William E. Chapman on February 10, 1928. They lived in Grand Junciton. She founded the first private kindergarten, Chapman Kindergarten, in Grand Junction in 1931. The business operated out of a home at 755 Ouray Avenue during a time when kindergarten was not offered in public schools. She closed the school in 1947. She died at the age of 96 and is buried in the Masonic Cemetery in Grand Junction.
