Mary Christine "Nanny" (Darrow) Maluy
She was born in Asherville, Kansas to George Allen Darrow and Anna (Lauthrop) Darrow. Her father was a day laborer and a landlord. Her mother, an immigrant from Denmark, was a homemaker who raised several children. She attended elementary school and high school in Beloit, Kansas, finishing in 1915. She married Clement Maluy in Salina, Kansas on May 1, 1916. In hopes of raising better crops, they followed her in-laws to Western Colorado on June 7, 1918. They lived on a homestead in the New Liberty area of Mesa County from 1918 to 1965. They raised poultry, sugar beets, and other crops and animals. She was a homemaker and mother. They occupied a one-room home and built an addition on the house in 1924. In 1936, they were hooked up to electricity along with other area homes, and in 1937, they added running water in the house. Her husband died in an accident in 1964. She then moved to 9th Street and Grand Avenue in Grand Junction, moving again in 1971 to N 4th Street. She belonged to the Rebekah Lodge No. 40 in Mack, was the PTA president, was a member of a bowling league, a bridge club, and served as the chairwoman of the Mesa County Democrats. At the age of eighty, she was baptized in the Mormon faith. She loved to travel. She died at the age of ninety-five and is buried in Grand Junction’s Memorial Gardens.
Mary Corcoran
She was born in Grand Junction in the 700 block of Gunnison Avenue. Her father was a cattle rancher, and she spent her summers on the ranch near De Beque on the Grand Mesa.
Mary Davis
Born in Wilmington, Delaware. Moved to Vail part time in Jan., 1965; fulltime in 1973. Occupation: housewife; work part time at finishing Touch of Vail. Children: 2 sons, 1 daughter, and 1 grandson. Special interests: downhill and cross country skiing, golf, needlepoint, sewing, gardening, hiking.
