At that time, it had not rained in their part of Kansas for seven years, and the drought had caused most of their crops to die. They settled on Mesa Street in the south part of Fruita where they farmed several acres. She helped her husband with work hanging wallpaper.

- A Gateway, Colorado native and granddaughter of the first family to settle in Gateway. She was born to Oscar Freeman Foy and Lula M. (Owens) Foy in Gateway. Her father was a stockman and miner. Her mother was a homemaker. She married on February 23, 1984. She and her husband Weston Massey took over the Massey family ranch in Unaweep Canyon and ran it for many years.
