Oscar Winfield Jaynes Jr.

He was born and raised in Clifton, Colorado and lived there most of his life. He went to Ross Business College in Grand Junction, then traveled the country, riding the rails, looking for work during the Great Depression. He then went to work for the peach industry in Palisade, where he served on the Mesa County Peach Administrative Committee for many years. He was also a charter member of the Clifton Lions Club, and as such instrumental in the creation of a Clifton Volunteer Fire Department, which later became the Clifton Fire Protection District. He served as a fireman for the department.

Oscar Winfield Jaynes Sr.

He was born in Illinois. His father, Ezra Jaynes, was a Civil War veteran and suffered gunshot wounds in the war. Doctors advised him to move to a dryer climate for his health. Oscar went with his father to Grand Junction in 1891, and together they bought land in the First Fruitridge area. Oscar returned to Illinois to marry his childhood sweetheart in 1899. During that time he worked as a pharmacist and taught school. They returned to Grand Junction in 1905. In 1907, he bought land in Clifton, Colorado, where they cleared sagebrush and established a farm at a homestead now known as 3269 F Road. Father of Oscar Winfield Jaynes Jr. Uncle of Velma E. (Borschell) Budin. Brother of Edith Jaynes and son of Ezra Jaynes.
