George Gillett discusses his early years in Racine, Wisconsin, his family, education, entrepreneurship and business career, his arrival in Vail in the 1960s, the early movers and shakers of the community of Vail and corporation of Vail Associates, the evolution of Vail’s ski culture, and his role in the transition from Vail Associates to Vail Resorts. The primary interviewer was Hayden Scott., In celebration of the 2012 Town of Vail (TOV) 50th Anniversary, the TOV performed several oral histories, including an interview with George Gillett. These recorded oral history interviews were entrusted to Vail Public Library (VPL) by TOV Director of Communications, Suzanne Silverthorn in September 2019. Select oral histories were remastered by Tony Mauro into usable formats for VPL and the TOV Vail 8150 Podcasts by KZYR radio. Mauro, who is Vice-President of Operations for KZYR and known as the "Voice of Vail," serves as host for the podcasts.
