Moose & Calf at Vail Public Library: Mary McDougall Photo
This image of a shiras moose (Alces alces shirasi) and calf was captured by VPL staff member, Mary McDougall. Observed browsing on wild rose (Rosa woodsii syn. R. blanda), the moose cow was enjoying the greenscape between Vail Public Library and Gore Creek. Early that morning, this same moose was observed browsing on river birch (Betula occidentalis) leaf and twig. During this interlude, McDougall turned a corner and experienced a too-close-for-comfort greeting of this wary moose mother.

Observed browsing on red osier dogwood (Cornus sericea) leaf and twig, the moose enjoyed the native plant landscaping between Vail Public Library (VPL) and Gore Creek for much of the afternoon.

Parker's Green: Dedicated to Bob Parker - no. 1
Located between Hanson Ranch Road, Gore Creek Drive, Bridge Street and Vail Valley Drive, Parker's Green sits atop Founders Parking Garage in the heart of Vail Village. The garden and greenscape is named for Bob Parker, the 1960s to 1980s marketing savant for Vail Associates. The image was 1 of 2 captured in June of 2023 by Dennis Laird of Eagle, Colorado.

Pat Day - Life-Size Statue at Churchill Downs
This bronze statue of Pat Day was created by Raymond Graf, a Louisville, Kentucky artist who holds a BFA in Sculpture from Murray State University. The life-size sculpture is located in the paddock of Churchill Downs in Louisville and was unveiled on 18 April 2022. Despite Pat Day's 4'11" stature, the sculpture is 5' tall and reflects a poignant story that is revealed in Pat Day's oral history. The photograph was captured by Brent Moore on 21 June 2018. Petra Hartmann: Winner 2024 Leadville Trail 100 - Race Across the Sky
Petra Hartmann, who is a US Postal Service mail carrier in the Town of Vail, won her 50 - 59 age group for the Leadville Trail 100: Race Across the Sky on 17 August 2024. The 100-mile running race begins and ends in the community of Leadville, Lake County, Colorado at an elevation of 10,152 feet. Course low point in his grueling 100-mile running race is 9300 feet at Twin Lakes; course high point is Hope Pass at nearly 12,600 feet. Hartmann accomplished the feat in 27 hours, 32 minutes, and 40 seconds. This photograph was captured at Vail Public Library by staff member Abigail Brezinka.
Piney Lake Sunset Panorama
This lovely Gore Range panorama was captured by Aaron Spong, a Colorado Front Range artist and photographer. Mount Powell is the mountain on the left, while Peak C is featured in the center. This sunset reflection image was captured 25 June 2014.
