Description
A directory of subscribers for the Eagle Valley Telephone Company exchange at Eagle, Colorado. The directory is dated January 1, 1935 and includes rates for installation, service, private telephone lines, and business lines. Telephones were becoming more modern: by 1935, telephones had a receiver to put to your ear and a stand, much of the same design they would have for the next 50 years. 1935 was also the year of the first telephone call made around the world. Local phone numbers had gained a few digits in some cases, and now required up to 5 numbers to dial. All customers-- both residential and business-- are listed together alphabetically.
Phone directories provide information about local businesses, current residents, and the changing locations of these groups. Despite a rural, sparse population at the time, Eagle and Gypsum led the Eagle Valley in providing utilities such as electricity and telephone service to residents., Shares location with 1927 telephone directory
